The worst thing is breaking down on the tour, we want you to be confident that your bike is going to perform as it should, you can follow this well known standard:
Please reach us at info@mototours.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Ensuring you have Petrol may sound obvious, but it’s happened to all of us. Make sure you have a nice full tank before you reach our first meeting point. When we are on the tour we will take care of the fuel stops, knowing how much you can get from a tank will help us however we usually run for 100-120 miles before we stop to fill the tanks
One of the most important factors for a smooth running bike is oil maintenance - we recommend you change your oil before you leave for the tour, we will have oil with us but check your oil before you leave - usually you can find a tiny window that shows the current oil level
Check your coolant levels when the bike is cold
Take a good look around your bike, pay attention to any potential loose bolts, cracks or debris, spend sometime going over every part of the bike, pulling and pushing tubes or break lines and feeling for excess fluids around forks.
If your bike has a chain, belt or is shaft driven, make sure it is in good condition, belt and shaft driven bikes tend not to need much maintenance, however always inspect it. When looking for possible damage or leaks; pay special attention to the seals. If your motorbike uses a chain, make sure it is well lubricated and has the right tension 1/1.5-inch movement in the middle of the chain
Check all the lights work, consider carrying spare bulbs and fuses.
(Tyres: tread and inflation- check the bikes handbook) and Reflectors (mirrors). Check your tyre condition, not just the tread, the side walls are just as important. Check your mirrors are correctly positioned before you move off. Remember to check all rubber components on the bike- footrests and brake hoses included.
(Check the bike’s handbook) and Stopping (brakes) should be checked to ensure that it is suitably set for the journey e.g. lone rider, with pillion, or with luggage. A moving brake test should be carried out at low speed first checking that you don’t have anyone behind you. Better to find out your brakes don’t work outside your house than at a junction.
